    Description

    Pleasing South Carolina 1786 £3

South Carolina May 1, 1786 £3 PCGS Apparent Very Fine 30.
We know of only three notes from this issue, all of which are this denomination. This is the second of those three we have sold. The other, also a PCGS Apparent VF 30, was previously the finest known, and is now tied with this note. This piece has tremendous eye appeal, with strong signatures, excellent margins, and no problems save for an edge tear, which has been repaired on the blank back. There was a Fine in a 2005 sale which sold for $3450. Our previous PCGS Apparent 30 realized over $4300, and we would expect a near-identical realization for this note.
