South Carolina March 6, 1776 L15 Extremely Fine. One of the highest grade examples of this issue that we have had the pleasure of handling and, importantly, the note is free of repairs or restorations of any kind. These are printed on extremely thin, weak paper that all but fell apart the moment it started to circulate. This piece has three of its four signatures remaining very bold and no damage whatever save for immaterial minor edge splits. The vignette on this note is sharp and clear. It shows a rattlesnake attacking a rampant lion that represents Britain, and it bears the Latin motto, "Magnis Interdum Parva Nocent," which Newman translates as, "Sometimes small things do harm to big ones."
