DescriptionSouth Carolina February 8, 1779 $90 PCGS Apparent Extremely Fine 45.
One of the more popular Colonial notes that seldom surface at auction, especially higher-grade examples like the one offered here. The back vignette of Hercules wrestling a lion is amongst the more interesting motifs seen on Colonial notes and offers a glimpse into the genius of its creator, Robert Coram, a master engraver of the American colonial era. This example features very crisp paper and bold inking on both face and back. There is a small edge split at the top-center margin which accounts for the 'apparent' designation.
Estimate: $1,000 - up.
