    Broad and Vibrant $80 "Liberty Cap" Back Coram Note

    South Carolina February 8, 1779 $80 Fr. SC-157. PCGS Choice About New 55.
    A broadly margined and vibrant $80 Thomas Coram-engraved note. In high grade and very attractive. A classically garbed man standing next to a flame holds out his sword; the motto is CONSTANTIA DURISSIMA VINCIT (The firmest constancy will conquer). The back has an oval 13-star shield flanked by horns, branches, and spears, topped by a Liberty cap in a glory. Printed on bluish paper. A gorgeous, high-grade example. Strictly Uncirculated notes are difficult to find from this series. The face margins are even and very wide, framing the face perfectly. The back is completely on the paper and just slightly skewed upwards at the left. This is compensated for by the immaculate paper integrity and surfaces. This example has a Gem appearance at first glance. One of the most beautiful Colonial notes ever issued.
