DescriptionSouth Carolina February 8, 1779 $70 PCGS Apparent Extremely Fine 40.
An overall well margined note with clearly visible signatures. The back design, engraved by Thomas Coram of Charleston, bears a detailed vignette illustrating the myth of Prometheus, chained to a rock, having his liver perpetually devoured by an eagle. This is one of the three denominations where Coram added his name to the plate. It appears just to the left of the chain on Prometheus's ankle. The apparent grade was assigned due to "Minor Mounting Remnants on Back" which truly are minor and do nothing to detract from the wonderful appearance of this elaborately engraved note.
