Likely Unique Uncut $70 1779 South Carolina Coram Engraved Full Sheet

South Carolina February 8, 1779 $70 Complete Sheet of Two PMG About Uncirculated 50.
"An incredible original sheet of two and the only one of this issue that we've ever handled. This is one of the three denominations that were added later on in the issue. On these $70 notes, Thomas Coram added his name on the engraved backs. It appears as 'T. Coram Sc' immediately to the left of the ring that holds Prometheus's chained ankle. There is a fold between the two subjects, but it is in a position where it leaves each of the two notes as fresh and original. Both notes are fully signed and numbered. This pair is in actuality a complete sheet. The impression of the plate edge is clearly visible all around the two notes. Both notes are simply beautiful. One has a diagonal fold and a small as-made paper flaw. The other is utterly pristine. There is a stain at the wide margin on one side of the sheet, apparently the result of a previous mounting, but it is well more than a 1/4 inch away from the note itself. These wonderful items are unique to our best knowledge, and certainly a challenge to estimate..." That was our description when these notes first appeared in April 2008. They were raw at that time and we graded them then as About New, just as PMG has done now. A number of $50 two subject sheets are known, but to our knowledge this $70 sheet remains unique.
