DescriptionSouth Carolina 1767 (Dates Handwritten) £20 PCGS Apparent Fine 15.
"PMG, which has the only available census, has graded two examples of this extremely rare note, both of which graded Good, the better of the two a 6 which we sold in January 2009 for $2185. This note, while certainly not a thing of beauty, has every bit of its printing, six legible signatures, and a wonderful, clear vignette. The apparent 15 grade was assigned for multiple problems, all of which are certainly present, but the note has the full visual appeal of the assigned 15 grade. Most of the work is visible only on the blank back." That was our description when we last sold this note in September 2011. At that sale it realized $1,897. Since then PCGS has released a census, although none of the three notes they have graded appear on the census as all three are Apparents. Very likely the finest known by a considerable margin despite the various issues mentioned.
Estimate: $2,250 - up.
