South Carolina February 8, 1779 $70 PCGS Apparent Extremely Fine 40.
A wonderful note that is sharply printed and has three bold signatures showing. The face has Hope with an anchor and the Latin phrase, "Spes Mentis Solatia" (Hope is the Consolation of the Mind). The back has Prometheus bound to a rock with an eagle attacking him. Prometheus was responsible for making man out of clay and stealing fire from Zeus to give to man when Zeus refused. He was punished by being bound and having an eagle feed on his liver daily, which would then regenerate (because he was a god) only to be eaten again the next day. Printed on cream paper and deeply inked on both sides. This is always one of the most coveted Coram types. The Apparent grade is due to small repaired edge splits.
