South Carolina February 8, 1779 $40 Choice About New. The Forty Dollar denomination is one of the scarcer denominations, with a print figure of only 2000. This example is #1157 of that 2000. It has the full paper selvage and the impression of the plate on three of the four sides. The top margin is much narrower, but it is well clear of the frame line of the note. There are a number of minor splits in the top margin, but they are this super note's only flaw. The signatures are strong, and the overall appearance is exceptional. If memory serves, this is the finest example of this denomination that we have had the pleasure of handling. It represents a premium combination of beauty and rarity that is seldom found in Colonial Currency.
