    South Carolina April 10, 1778 Uncut Sheet of Four Choice New. This uncut South Carolina sheet contains one each of the 2s6d, 3s9d, 5s and 10s notes. Each is well signed, broadly margined and problem-free. We've seen sheets from this issue before, and the sheets as well as the individual notes always have a slightly dingy cast to their surfaces. This sheet, with its extra-wide top margin, provides us with the answer. The dinginess comes from the printing process itself, as the unprinted margin above the top edge of the sheet is bright and clean, but the entire area that was contacted by the printing plate has a grayish cast. Apparently the plates were incompletely wiped between impressions, causing a light ink transfer over the entire surface of the sheet. In any event, this sheet is beautifully well printed and likely to realize . . .
