Nearly Superb Gem 1778 South Carolina Colonial

    South Carolina April 10, 1778 3s 9d PCGS Gem New 66.
Aside from being nearly superb gem it is also nearly Top Pop, with only a single 67 greater or equal to it. We aren't sure why it wasn't awarded the PPQ designation as it certainly appears to have deserved it. The margins are enormous on all sides and the centering is as good as it gets. A bold vignette of a beaver gnawing a branch is seen at lower right and the two signatures appear to have been signed this morning. A fascinating colonial from the Palmetto state which looks every bit as nice as the 5 shilling note in Gem 66 grade last April for $2820.
