Province of Georgia 1755 20 Shillings Fr. GA-25. PCGS Very Good 10 Apparent.
This 1755 Georgia Province note series is interesting. The notes are all very rare to extremely rare, and choice examples of any denomination are next to impossible obtain. Printed on very thin laid paper, the notes wore easily and split fairly rapidly; as such, they were often backed on other paper to strengthen them, as is the case here. The textual obligation is across the note. At the lower right is a nicely detailed, circular emblem showing a Woman Operating a Thread Winder vignette. This was also used on the 1762 20 shillings. Grading notes: "Splits and Damage; Repairs; Backed." The Boyd Collection note, which was only "Good," realized $2,990 in the May 2004 Ford Part III sale. This is a significant type because there are perhaps only a few examples known in all grades.

Truth Seeker: The Life of Eric P. Newman (softcover)
A powerful and intimidating dealer of the 1960s, backed by important colleagues, was accused of selling fraudulent gold coins and ingots to unsuspecting numismatists. Who would go up against a man like that and, over the course of decades, prove the fraud? Who would expose a widely respected scholar as a thief, then doggedly pursue recovery of coins that the scholar had stolen from an embarrassed numismatic organization, all over the objections of influential collectors who had bought coins with clouded titles? Eric P. Newman would - and did. Reserve your copy today.
