    Pennsylvania March 20, 1771 20s PMG About Uncirculated 55.
Only £15,000 in notes were issued for the defense of Philadelphia under the March 9, 1771 Act. The note in this lot is the finest that we have auctioned. It is also the finest of eleven that PMG has graded, with no equals. In fact PCGS has graded just one example above AU 50, a single 58. Most unusually, no area was left on this note for a serial number, and the number was written over the design at the upper left. In April 2009 we sold this exact note for $920, a figure which should certainly be exceeded this evening.
