DescriptionPennsylvania June 15, 1767 40s PCGS Apparent Very Fine 20.
We sold this note once before at our 2015 Central States Sale, where we used the following description: "PCGS has seen this and one other example, both of which were graded Apparent, and PMG has never seen one. Friedberg lists all notes from this issue as extremely rare, and although Newman has no prices for the entire issue, he does comment on a £6 Fine that was auctioned in May 2005 for $5,750. An important note for the specialist and without question one of the finest known examples of the issue. Difficult to estimate, but the Apparent is of little consequence as it is for 'Minor Mounting Remnants and Small Paper Pulls.'" As one would expect with a note of this rarity, neither PMG nor PCGS has seen another in the past two years and the census figures remain the same. The note realized $2,350 in April of 2015, and we would expect the same or a bit more this evening.
