    Pennsylvania April 3, 1772 40 Shillings Fr. PA-158 PCGS Extremely Fine 40.
The April 3, 1772, 40 shillings have a unique style compared to other denominations from the issue. They are printed in two colors, with the denomination and Penn family arms in red. Within the nature print on the back, the denomination is expressed as "S / 40" at the lower left. Scarce overall, and high-grade notes are difficult to obtain. We have never seen an Uncirculated note, nor do the 19 listings on Track & Price note any examples. These are often seen poorly trimmed. Closely cut, but the printing clarity on both sides and red color are vibrant. An underrated Colonial type.
    From the Hunter Collection.
