Pennsylvania April 20, 1781 15s PCGS Apparent Extremely Fine 45.
We have handled a number of high-grade Small Change notes from this issue, but this is the first higher denomination third party example we have seen in this kind of shape. The note has the look of a fully AU piece. The Apparent grade has been assigned for a "Small Edge Tear at Left; Signature and Serial Number Enhanced." The tear comment is correct. The "enhancement" comment is in our opinion simply wrong. It is decently margined, beautifully printed, bright and clean. A rare item that will be much appreciated by Pennsylvania specialists. PCGS has graded only two of these, neither of which appear on the census, as both this one and the other are "Apparent." Three previous lot tags ride along with this note, tracing it back to a 1985 Pine Tree auction.
