Pennsylvania May 20, 1758 15 Shillings Fr. PA-95. PCGS Very Fine 25 Apparent.
A vertical format B. Franklin and D. Hall imprint note. Plate B. As discussed in Eric P. Newman's four-part 1964 Numismatist article, "Nature Printing on Colonial and Continental Currency," denominations appear within some nature prints on Pennsylvania Colonial currency. Because this information was not included in the 5th edition of the Newman reference, any observed denominations have been mentioned in this catalog. On the present example, the "XV" has been placed perpendicularly at left in the vignette. This additional device would have served as a deterrent to altering the note in order to raise the denomination. This example has considerable paper body and is very attractive. Noted with "Small Edge Splits; Minor Mounting Remnants on Back." An excellent Franklin and Hall type note.

Truth Seeker: The Life of Eric P. Newman (softcover)
A powerful and intimidating dealer of the 1960s, backed by important colleagues, was accused of selling fraudulent gold coins and ingots to unsuspecting numismatists. Who would go up against a man like that and, over the course of decades, prove the fraud? Who would expose a widely respected scholar as a thief, then doggedly pursue recovery of coins that the scholar had stolen from an embarrassed numismatic organization, all over the objections of influential collectors who had bought coins with clouded titles? Eric P. Newman would - and did. Reserve your copy today.
