    Description

Pennsylvania April 3, 1772 18d John Morton PCGS Very Fine 20.
A very handsome John Morton signed note. The printing is sharp on this deeply inked example with complete face margins. The Morton signature at the bottom of the trio stands out beautifully. This is ideal for a Morton type, and we have seen few notes from this signer in better condition. Ideal for a "Signers" set of distinction. John Morton was a farmer, surveyor, and jurist from the Province of Pennsylvania. As a delegate to the Continental Congress during the American Revolution, he provided the swing vote that allowed Pennsylvania to vote in favor of the United States Declaration of Independence. Morton signed the Declaration and chaired the committee that wrote the Articles of Confederation.
