Pennsylvania April 25, 1776 9d PCGS Superb Gem New 67PPQ.
An absolutely gorgeous example of this Pennsylvania small change note. The bright red signature and bold red serial number contrast beautifully with the bright paper color. As one would expect at the 67PPQ level, the margins are large, and the centering is virtually perfect on both sides. This note is Top-Pop at both services combined. It is alone at the 67 level at PCGS, and PMG has yet to see an example above the 65 grade. The note is an old friend. We sold it about a decade ago in our January 2008 FUN sale. At that time, it realized $1725 with no additional examples reaching this grade level over the past 9 years. We would expect that number to be surpassed this evening.
