Pennsylvania April 25, 1759 £5 PMG Very Fine 25 Net.
An ever-popular Ben Franklin and David Hall-printed note which happens to also be the highest denomination issued under this act of April 1759. The design in fascinating in that it incorporated two different ink colors, black and a deep red-near burgundy. In its day, this was a novel attempt to discourage counterfeiting which posed a very real threat to economic well being of each colony, not just Pennsylvania. The example offered here features very bold, clear design elements in comparison to what is normally encountered in this issue. The net grade derives from two small repairs that can be seen in the left and right-hand margins. A lovely note worthy of a premium bid. PMG has graded only eleven of these, with this piece tied for the finest. PCGS has graded eight, none of which appear in their population report, as all are apparents. This piece could easily be the finest known.
