    Description

Pennsylvania April 10, 1775 50s Gem New. A simply incredible example of this "Workhouse" issue, so-called as it bears a detailed vignette of the Walnut Street Workhouse (the City Jail of Philadelphia) on its back. The note is broadly margined, very bright, and extremely sharply printed. It also exhibits its easily seen original embossing and the paper is as crisp as it was 200 years ago. This is number 2645 out of an original printing of only 3334. Extraordinary quality Colonial notes are, in this cataloger's opinion, bizarrely undervalued in today's market but with the recently completed Ford sale realizing all kinds of price records maybe that is finally changing.
