Salem, North Carolina - 2 Pence October 22, 1803 Samuel Stots/Moravian Church Note UNL PMG Choice Uncirculated 64.
This is a rare Choice Uncirculated quality, small size Colonial period scrip note issued by the Moravian Church in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. The church was founded on November 13, 1771 and still stands in Old Salem a restored 1766 Moravian settlement. This note has fresh laid paper with sharply printed black text, along with the bold deep brown ink signatures of "Sam(uel) Slots" and "Conrad Kreuser". It is the upper right sheet corner note having two full and two Jumbo Sheet Edge Margins. This issue has been attributed by the noted Douglas Ball to the Moravian Church of Salem, North Carolina as its Colonial era issue. A lovely, crisp Choice Uncirculated quality note.
