Salem, NC - "We or either of us "Samuel Stots & Conrad Kreuser," promise to pay 9 Pence October 22, 1803 Newman UNL PMG Choice Uncirculated 63.
An intriguing scrip note issuer after 1800 and not listed in Newman. The style, size, and paper make them a natural fit for a Colonial collection. These notes are in a diminutive format and printed uniface on laid paper. Ornate bordering encloses the obligations, date, denomination, and a small emblem at lower left. It is hand-dated and signed by both Stots and Kreuzer. We have auctioned this church scrip only twice before with the most recent offering being part of the Eric P. Newman Collection.
