Salem, NC - "We or either of us "Samuel Stots (& Conrad Kreuser)," promise to pay 3 Pence October 22, 1803 Newman UNL PMG Choice Uncirculated 64.
There has been some controversy about whether the first signature on these notes was "Stots" or "Stotz." There are various documents that contain both spellings and clearly refer to the same person. A close examination of the signature on these notes shows "Stots." Also, a tombstone in the Salem Moravian cemetery, known as "God's Acre," has the inscription of "Samuel Stots," and lists him as a church warden, 1752-1820. The other signer on fully issued notes was Conrad Kreuser (1753-1845). He is interred in the same cemetery. The note in this lot is a remainder.
