North Carolina May 15, 1779 $10 Virtue Excels Riches Fr. NC-184b. PCGS Choice About New 55.This Smithfield act note is from a distinctive typeset series printed by Hugh Walker on two sides on laid paper. The text has ornamental borders on three sides and black bordering at the top with outlined "No. Carolina Currency" in white. "Virtue excels / Riches" is at lower left in a cartouche. The denomination and imprint are on the back. The paper used was prone to splitting, and high-grade notes are hard to find. This choice example has only some light handling. With deep printing, wide margins, and perfect face-to-back registration, a superb type note from the issue with the eye appeal of a "PPQ" note.
