DescriptionNorth Carolina May 10, 1780 $100 Fortis Cadere Cedere Non Potest PCGS Extremely Fine 40.
A much scarcer denomination from this later North Carolina issue, as we offer one on average once every year or two. A meager printing of 5000 with the motto FORTIS CADERE CEDERE NON POTEST (A brave man cannot fail). The last couple we sold were apparent/net graded VF notes which realized $175-$200 each. We have only sold a single slabbed note better than this one and there are no CU notes graded by PCGS. In 2011, as part of the King's Mountain Collection, we sold a problem-free Very Fine for $488.75. This note, from the John J. Ford, Jr. Collection, is right near the top of the census.
