    Description

North Carolina March 9, 1754 40 Shillings Church Fr. NC-82 PMG Choice Fine 15 Net.
The highest denomination of the series. In his Early Paper Money of America, fifth edition, Newman names the building depicted at lower left as "Christ Church at Newbern." Rendered in a folk-art style, its spire extends upward beyond the edge of the circle. New Bern was the colonial capital at the time. PMG comments: "Severed & Reattached." This still has a whole appearance and faces up well. Ex: Lyn Knight, January 2012 sale, lot 423.
    From The Mike Coltrane Collection.
