Description

North Carolina August 21, 1775 $5 PMG Fair 2 Net.
This is the first example we have been able to offer as a single lot in any of our auctions. Only 4,000 of these $5 notes were produced and this example is numbered 63. The issue was printed by silversmith William Tisdale of New Bern according to North Carolina researcher Neil Fulghum. The vignette at lower left depicts Governor Tryon's Palace at New Bern, although areas of paper loss are observed. PMG assigned the net grade due to pieces missing and the tape repairs on the back.
