Beautiful $4 Hillsborough North Carolina Note - One of Only Two Graded at Both Services Combined

North Carolina August 21, 1775 $4 PCGS Apparent Very Fine 30.
"This note, from one of the most elusive issues of Colonial Currency, is the first example that Heritage-CAA has handled. The Friedberg catalog prices only the $1/4 from this issue, and refers to all the other denominations as very rare in all grades. This rare Colonial note was previously part of Stack's October 2006 sale, where it realized over $4900." That was the description used the only other time we sold an example of this note. That was back in 2007. PCGS has graded only two of these, both with apparent grades, and this the nicer of the two pieces by far. PMG has yet to see an example in any grade. The apparent is for "Edge Restorations; Piece Added in UR Corner; Design Redrawn." All the work is at the very edges, and the redrawn design refers simply to the frame line. All of the text, signature, and body of the note grade a solid Very Fine with no problems. The original colors of all four signatures remains strong, including the red signature. The Masonic symbol at the lower left is clean, sharp, and with all its varied elements crystal clear. This is likely one of the nicest, if not the nicest example known, and it should certainly move past our estimate.
