DescriptionNorth Carolina April 4, 1748 3 Pounds Fort Johnson & Union Jack Fr. NC-70. PCGS Extremely Fine 40 Apparent.
A very appealing example of this early Proclamation Money issue with an interesting vignette of Fort Johnson and a Union Jack at the lower left. A quantity of 2,000 was authorized to be printed. Three of the four signatures are strong, but Eleazer Allen's is light. This type was much rarer many years ago. However, most examples of this type from the hoard were badly damaged and vastly inferior to this Newman Collection example. Noted with "Edge Splits and Tears; Hinge Repairs on Back." Superior to most known.

A powerful and intimidating dealer of the 1960s, backed by important colleagues, was accused of selling fraudulent gold coins and ingots to unsuspecting numismatists. Who would go up against a man like that and, over the course of decades, prove the fraud? Who would expose a widely respected scholar as a thief, then doggedly pursue recovery of coins that the scholar had stolen from an embarrassed numismatic organization, all over the objections of influential collectors who had bought coins with clouded titles? Eric P. Newman would - and did. Reserve your copy today.
