DescriptionNorth Carolina April 23, 1761 £3 PCGS Apparent Very Fine 35.
In spite of an amazingly short print run of only one thousand notes, this note is relatively common. We have sold 53 examples and even with duplicates removed the number is likely around 40. This occurs a few times in Colonial currency, and the reason is almost always the same: hordes are anticipated to be high grade notes, but after circulation and redemption certain Colonies had leaks in their archives which allowed groups of notes to reappear. We are not sure that is the case here, but rather suspect that accounts for the discrepancy between the extremely small printing and the high survival rate. The apparent grade on this note is for small edge tears.
Estimate: $300 - up.
