    Pleasing $8 Rooster

North Carolina April 2, 1776 $8 Rooster Fr. NC-165b PMG Extremely Fine 40.
This is the other $8 vignette type issued, and 10,000 were authorized. Few remain in this lofty condition. Three borders have white-on-black elements: flowering vines at top and left, and the denomination at the right. The rooster, meticulously engraved with comb and wattle seen, stands with one leg up, ready to make a move. The embellished circle contains all but the comb and ends of the tail feathers. An attractive eBay purchase by Mike with no detractions listed on the holder. Superior to both Boyd notes and nearly as sharp as the Newman Collection note sold in Newman Part VII for $1,762.50.
    From The Mike Coltrane Collection.
