This nicely margined, appealing note was one of 56 different varieties that were part of this issue, the largest number of varieties ever for a single American paper money issue. This is the variety with a vignette of a sheaf of wheat. Only 10,000 of these notes were printed. The other $4 variety features a vignette of a bee. These notes were engraved by Gabriel Lewyn on copper plates. Lewyn was a goldsmith in Baltimore. William Haywood, William Williams, and J. Webb were the signers of this example.
