DescriptionNorth Carolina April 2, 1776 $4 PMG Choice Very Fine 35. The North Carolina 1776 issue is one of the most fascinating in Colonial Currency. The notes are well designed and attractive and each bears an interesting vignette. The denominations start at $1/16 and range up to $20, with multiple vignettes for many of the denominations, for a grand total of 56 distinctive notes. The emblem on this example is a sheaf of wheat. Only 10,000 of these notes were printed and only one note has received a higher grade from PMG. The copper plates used were engraved by Gabriel Lewyn who was a goldsmith in Baltimore. This note was signed by David Sumner, William Haywood, William Williams, and J. Webb. A few endorsements are seen on the back.
Estimate: $1,100 - up.
