North Carolina April 2, 1776 $10 Cupid Fr. NC-166a PMG Choice Extremely Fine 45 Net.
There are two different $10 vignette types: Cupid and Peacock. These higher denominations are available in lesser grades, but the Track & Price census for both yields no strictly Uncirculated notes. Cupid, within brackets, flies while holding his arrow and a capped Liberty pole. The ends have cartouches with white on black printing: the denomination at left and counterfeit warning at right. Noted by PMG as "Repaired," with two corners rebuilt and redrawn. It would pair well with the Peacock below. Ex: our 2013 Long Beach sale, lot 15690, where it realized $587.50. The vignette is strongly defined, and this is a charming example.
