North Carolina April 2, 1776 $1/8 Steer Fr. NC-154h PMG Very Fine 30.
This is the last of the eight $1/8 denominations from the Halifax series, and is also rare. It boasts the illustrious Newman pedigree. Super sharp printing gives the vignette crystal clarity. The steer is shown walking down an incline, perhaps to the watering hole. A curlicue border is at the left and a dentate border is at the right. Paper is solid, with minor faults noted as "Splits, Foreign Substance." Ex: our Eric P. Newman Internet Part 3 sale, May 2017, lot 89172 where it realized $646.25 (then certified by PCGS); Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society. Another intriguing type.
    From The Mike Coltrane Collection.
