DescriptionNorth Carolina April 2, 1776 $1/2 Crow and Pitcher PCGS Apparent Extremely Fine 40.
The apparent grade was assigned for a minor split repair and another small repair of a hole, but the appearance of the note is that of a solid XF. The crow and pitcher vignette refers to an Aesop's fable where a crow raises the water to a drinking level by dropping a number of pebbles in the pitcher (little by little does the trick). Even with its minor flaws, this is an extraordinary example of this note. The vignette is clear enough to actually distinguish a pebble in the crow's beak.
