    Description

North Carolina November 27, 1729 Counterfeit £5 PCGS Apparent Very Fine 30.
A counterfeit of the completely handwritten £5 denomination, this imitation comes complete with a red wax seal over thread. This example was apparently discovered to be a counterfeit early on. There is little indication that it saw extensive circulation as witnessed by only two endorsements on the back. "Counterfeit" is emblazoned vertically across the face of the note. PCGS has noted splits, tears, tape repair, minor stains, and ink erosion. Having said all of that, this is still a very rare and important piece worthy of a place in any colonial currency collection. Formerly part of the John J. Ford, Jr. collection.
