North Carolina May 4, 1758 40s PCGS Apparent Very Fine 25.
This very note is the only example we have ever sold. When we sold it in the April 2012 auction, it realized just under $600 with the following description: "This entire issue only had 7,000 notes printed, with the 40s being the rarest denomination. Only 1,000 were printed of this denomination and it seemingly has a lower survival ratio than one would think. We have never sold one and the only example listed in Newman was one graded Good which was sold by Stacks for $1,035 in May 2004. PCGS has commented 'splits and tears, repairs and multiple pinholes'. This is all irrelevant since you are highly unlikely to ever be able to find another one." The market is stronger now and we would anticipate a four figure realization.
