North Carolina March 9, 1754 8d Butterfly PMG Very Good 8 Net.
The Act of March 9, 1754 authorized £40,000 in indented Bills of Credit with legal tender status at Proclamation Money rates. The aggregate total of each denomination printed, however totaled only £39,650. 20,000 8d notes of this variety, which depicts a rather whimsical butterfly, were printed. This example spent a long time in circulation before being rescued by someone who backed it in order to help keep it in circulation a bit longer. The note is in surprisingly intact condition with all major design elements legible. Aside from one high condition outlier, all of the known examples of this design are in similar condition.
