North Carolina March 9, 1754 8d Butterfly PCGS Apparent Extremely Fine 40.
Far scarcer than the higher denominations from this same issue and, to our recollection, the nicest example of this butterfly note that we have seen. The apparent grade has been assigned for minor ink erosion at the serial number and a small edge tear at the bottom to the right of the vignette. Notes of this issue, particularly these lower denominations, are virtually never seen intact. Heavy restorations are the rule and this note is utterly original, without a touch of a repair or restoration. Neither Newman nor Friedberg price this note above Very Fine. The piece will prove to be a real treasure to its new owner.
