North Carolina March 9, 1754 2 Shillings 8 Pence Snail Fr. NC-74 PCGS Good 6.
This extremely rare early North Carolina issue originated in the Newman Collection . A delightful, highly detailed snail emblem is at the lower left, foreshadowing the folk art observed on the April 2, 1776, Halifax series. This was the first graded at PCGS and was not present in the accumulation of North Carolina colonials dispersed years ago. Noted as "Severed and Sewn Together; Backed." Ex: our Eric P. Newman Part VIII sale, November 2017, lot 29032 (realized $780); Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society. Although low grade, the rarity and boldly printed snail emblem make this very collectible.
    From The Mike Coltrane Collection.
