    Description

North Carolina March 9, 1754 1s Bear PCGS Extremely Fine 45.
This is the only example to have been seen by either grading service. The sole example we have sold was a raw Good that was discolored and had a plethora of missing pieces and long tears. Unless a low grade note was in a group lot, it appears as though there was not an example in our sales of the Newman collection. This piece is a full 45 and the italic grade which has been assigned for minor restorations and mounting thins is accurate, but they are of so little consequence that we believe them not to have been worthy of mention. As with the lion 4d above, this cataloger does not believe there were any examples of this note in the massive low grade hoard. A simply spectacular North Carolina note that would forever remain a highlight in a collection even were it to be surrounded by far more valuable pieces. This is one of those instances where if this were the finest of a dozen known rather than 1 of only 2 surviving examples, it would actually be worth more.
