North Carolina April 2, 1776 $12 1/2 Eagle carrying broken arrows PCGS Extremely Fine 45.
One of the highest denominations from this 56-note issue and one of only four denominations printed with just one variety. In this case, it is an eagle clutching broken arrows surrounded by the Latin, DEUS NOBISCUM, which Newman translates as, "God be with us," which we presume is what one would say when heading into a battle with really crooked arrows. This note has the shortest printing of any of the 56 varieties, with only 3,000 examples printed. PCGS has graded a total of six of these, with the highest of them an AU 50. This XF 45 carries the comment, "Repaired Edge Tear at Top Center," which is correct but quite immaterial. A beautiful note.
