North Carolina April 2, 1776 $1 Justice PCGS Very Fine 35.
This is the only example of this $1 Justice that HCAA has handled. We sold it once before as part of the Collection of a Louisiana Gentleman in September 2008 where it realized $863. We've not seen a finer example and would not be at all surprised if no finer existed. The assigned 35 grade strikes us as quite conservative and the piece may possibly have been downgraded for light aging at the edges as we've seen pieces more heavily folded and worn graded XF by both services. The all important vignette is wonderfully clean and clear, with every detail of the original engraving easily seen.
