North Carolina April 2, 1776 $1/8 Heron PCGS Extremely Fine 45.
A $1/8 example from this issue would be an important rarity even as a rag. This note is a full XF with the italic grade due to tape repair on the back and a short edge tear at the left. From the face, this heron variety note has the appearance of an AU piece. The imprint of the plate edge can be clearly seen on both sides of the note. One of the more impressive pieces from this magnificent complete set. The Newman example was an Apparent 25 with stains and repairs, although it also was an extremely impressive piece. It realized a surprisingly weak $1,410. All throughout the Newman Colonial sessions, there were large surprises to the top and bottom of the potential range. The Newman note was, in our opinion, a bottom.
