    Attractive $1/4 Hare Note

North Carolina April 2, 1776 $1/4 Hare Fr. NC-155c PMG Very Fine 30.
This very sharply printed and handsome ex: Newman $1/4 Hare is much nicer looking than the Boyd example sold in Ford Part XV. The margins are complete, though on the close side, but the vignette of the Hare, shown munching on vegetables, has exquisite detail and is deeply inked. An interesting plate layout forced one signature to be near the top and the other at the bottom, as opposed to being together. This example is noted only with "Splits," but we only report a short one at the top center that is justifiably ignored when weighed with its charm and eye appeal. Ex: our Eric P. Newman Part VII sale, October 2015, lot 18154 where it realized $1,116.25; Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society. A perfect fit into any set and conservatively estimated.
