High Grade Very Rare 1709 New York 10s Note

New York May 31, 1709 10s Choice Extremely Fine. This is number 153 out of 500 examples printed nearly 300 years ago. It is the first 10s variety, with the word "Governor" spelled without the "u". The note circulated very briefly and has two light folds, but is otherwise problem-free. It is perfectly bright, extremely well signed and handsome in its simplicity. This May 31, 1709 issue was the first issue printed for New York and is one of the very earliest notes to appear from any colony. Typically, notes of this era are unavailable in any condition, but, luckily for collectors, a small group of this early issue has survived. All three of the signatures are strong, the print quality is perfect and the note has the look of a fully Uncirculated piece unless examined closely on the blank back. This is the first example from this issue that we have had the pleasure of handling and it is a note that will likely find its way into a significant Colonial holding at or about. . .
