    Description

New York January 6, 1776 2s Choice Extremely Fine. A very nice example of this New York City Water Works issue. This is a particularly unusual example, as the note was to be prepared printed both face and back. The face and back were printed on separate pieces of paper, the face on a lighter white paper, and the back on a dark, heavy, coarse paper. This lot is the face only, but it clearly has not been separated from a back, as there are no traces of previous mounting, and the note has retained all its original embossing, indicating it had never been soaked. An unusual and enigmatic piece.
