    Description

New York February 16, 1771 £3 PCGS Apparent Very Fine 30. Three respectable margins are seen on this well-printed note. The vignettes exhibit strong detail. Only 6000 of these £3 notes were issued. Walter Franklin, Samuel Verplanck, and A. Lott were the signers of this example. However, Verplanck's signature has faded significantly. Hugh Gaine printed this issue on thin laid paper. Gaine, a native of Ireland, worked for James Parker for several years after he arrived in New York. Circa 1750 he established his own press. He died at the age of 81 on April 25, 1807. Repaired edge splits were mentioned by PCGS on this example.
